Tonights Show Moved to Tuesday

Another Show falls victim to inconsistent weather. This show will be moved to Tuesday the 23rd from 2pm to 6pm. Tomorrow night I will be performing at the So Cal Live Music awards up in Riverside, CA. The show is at the Coffee Depot and I’ll be competing along with 7 other performers. My slot is at 9pm. Gonna play hard.

Merchandise Store is up!

The merchandise store is now open and we are using Paypal to take care of transactions. We are slowly adding more merchandise to our catalog but it’s great to have product up besides just CD’s. We are also using fan pics as our models for the shirts. So if you have any pics of yourself, friends, or family wearing a Mike Moran Music t-shirt. Please send it to us and we’ll use it in our store.

Show this weekend at the Gypsy Den

Excited to be playing this weekend up in Santa Ana at the award winning Gypsy Den. This is place is famous for it’s live music and excellent food. I’ll be performing at 9pm with Isaac Simons opening up at 8pm. You can find out more about this great venue at www.gypsyden.com.

Show Cancelled for Tonight

Tonight’s show at the Old Town State park on the Old Town Market Stage is cancelled due to storm damage from yesterday. We will reschedule with in the next two weeks. Bummer news but more gigs are coming.

Who’s fair in Digital Distribution

Every show I have done over the last few years some one has asked me what the difference is between buying a CD at a show or going home and buying it on Itunes or another digital download site. Well I have finally nailed it down for myself, so for those who are interested in how it all works I am going to give you an example who pays what.

I am an Itunes advocate, they do things the right way. They seem to be the fairest and communicate to the artists the best. For every 99 cent download the artist receives 63 cents. The same goes for Amazon digital, but Amazon has a tendency to not let you know that they are putting some of your tracks on sale or your entire album. Some days you can get my albums on Amazon for $2.99. When you make your first order of hard copy CDs through a duplication company you tally in the cost of recording, artwork, distribution, etc… it normally averages to be $11 to $12 dollars for one cd. Once you sell out of your first order you are normally back to even, and your re-orders is where you start to make a profit.

So here are some other digital sites, they don’t really give you a specific number because it varies every day but here is what they sent me.

Itunes 63 cents a song

Itunes UK 63 cents

Amazon 63 cents

Recently someone downloaded 7 songs on Napster for those 7 songs artist received 03 cents

Rhapsody pays 11 cents an album!

Last.FM pays not even 1 cent a song

And my favorite is Spotifly which pays like .00000010 of a cent a song

The remainder of the digital download sites average around the same as the last three, but I have never heard of them.

Now I am an advocate of free music, and a lot of you know that I have handed out over 24,000 free cds at my show across the country, but sometimes you have to wonder where the other 98 cents goes. I try to chalk it up to promotion and advertising and focus on doing the best you can at writing good songs, performing well, and connecting with fans at shows. For me thats the way it’s always going to be done, the digital download stuff is for fun, kind of like going to the casino or playing the lottery.

You can’t win if you don’t play.

New Shows Up

Over the past three months since moving to San Diego I have been involved in a lot. All though I haven’t been gigging much I have been doing a little recording, doing lots of reading, and I also played in my first Disc Golf Tournament. Disc golf is my jones.

I am going to be doing a lot more shows free to the public and working my way out of the bar scene. I do have some openings for national acts in the works but my new deal has allowed me to take on new opportunities that put me in front of crowds outside of the bars.

So I hope you check out the gig schedule and it looks like I’ll be posting some gigs in Michigan in the months of April, and August. The So Cal live competition which was cancelled has been moved to Feb 20th and that will be in Riverside.

I also want to say congrats to my friends Levi and Krissie who got engaged over the last week. They are both very close friends and I am very excited for them.

I’ll be competing in the SoCal Music Live Acoustic competition at Tio’s in Riverside, CA on Saturday December 19th. I go on at 9pm and I have a half hour set. I am excited to get back to playing on a regular basis after a good 3 months writing, moving, and all sorts of good stuff. Hope so see some familiar faces out.

Also we have begun booking for 2010. We are currently negotiating with a few clubs for standing gigs much like the one I had at Kilkennys. It will be a shorter slot and all original music which I am very excited about.

New Website goes live this weekend!

Very excited about the new website going live this weekend! There will be lots of great updates that have been long overdue and we are currently still in the process of building the merch store full of cool and odd things. As of right now we are mapping out our tour schedule and I am in the process of writing and arranging my next album. Once the new website is live you will be able to sign up for our mailing list and receive our newsletter every two weeks. Other than that thanks for all the support and I hope you enjoy the new website.

Settled in San Diego

It’s been a long series of events and a lot of traveling but finally my lady Mikah, my dog Toto, and I are settled in San Diego. Yes the weather is awesome. Tonight I played an open mic at RT’s Longboard Grill in Pacific Beach. The first time I have played since my last show at Kilkennys Sept 24th. It was a little rusty but it was great to see people from Rochester, Clarkston, and Traverse City all the way out here on the west coast.

I have got a ton of work to do but it is great to announce that I have finalized a marketing deal which will market my music on a national level for the next three years! Thanks for all the support everyone and I know I keep saying this but the new website should be up pretty soon. Hope all is well in your world!

2 1/2 Weeks Left in Michigan

It’s starting to finally hit me that I’ll be leaving for San Diego to start performing on a national level. I have lived in Traverse City since August of 02 and this is where I became a performing songwriter. I had never gigged at bar until I moved here, never gotten paid for a gig, hell I hardly knew how to sing and play anything. That was seven years ago and now with encouragement from family, close friends, and great fans I am out to further my career.
